ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Chisom Utibe Akah, also known as Jenny Chisom, is a distinguished authority in editing. Graduating with a degree in English Language and Literary Studies from Imo State University in 2004, she embarked on her editing journey in 2007 at a media company in Abuja, Nigeria. Starting as an editor for a business and TV magazine, she swiftly evolved into a consultant and trainer.
By 2010, Chisom registered her own book editing business as a freelancer, eventually transitioning it into a full-time pursuit after leaving her last paid job in 2017. Inspired by a passion for precision that originated in her early years, Chisom's dedication to editing began at the age of 7 when she started reading the Bible fluently. This commitment persisted, leading her to address grammatical and other errors in books, particularly those by African authors.
Chisom's formal entry into the editing field was marked by the establishment of her blog in 2009, followed by the official registration of her business in 2010. Since then, she has successfully edited hundreds of book manuscripts and actual books spanning various genres, including Children's fiction, Thriller fiction, Self-help/motivational books, (Auto)biographies, memoirs, and Academic/tutorial books.
Her notable achievements include winning multiple awards as a personal brand, and the success of her course, which had its first sale in 2018 without a formal launch. Remarkably, the first three alumni of the course are now experts in the editorial industry in Nigeria. A relaunch in March 2022 saw an additional eight editor-business owners making significant impacts in the publishing sector.
